The load index (e.g., 91) is a number that corresponds to the maximum weight each tyre can safely support at the maximum rated inflation pressure. The number is not the weight itself — it refers to a standardised table.
For example: Load index 91 = 615 kg per tyre. Four tyres at load index 91 = 2,460 kg total load capacity.
Always fit tyres with a load index equal to or greater than the original specification. A lower load index means the tyre cannot safely support the vehicle's weight — particularly under heavy loads, passengers, and luggage.
Speed Rating
The speed rating (e.g., V) is a letter that indicates the maximum speed the tyre is certified to sustain safely. Common ratings include:
T — Up to 190 km/h (118 mph). H — Up to 210 km/h (130 mph). V — Up to 240 km/h (149 mph). W — Up to 270 km/h (168 mph). Y — Up to 300 km/h (186 mph).
Always fit tyres with a speed rating equal to or greater than the original specification. A lower speed rating means the tyre is not certified for the speeds the vehicle is capable of — even if you do not intend to drive at those speeds, the tyre's construction and heat resistance are designed for its rated performance envelope.

Summer Tyres
Summer tyres are designed for warm, dry, and wet conditions — typically above 7°C (45°F). Their rubber compound is optimised for grip and responsiveness in these temperatures.
Strengths: Excellent dry grip. Good wet grip (with adequate tread depth). Responsive handling. Lower rolling resistance.
Limitations: Performance degrades significantly below approximately 7°C. The rubber compound hardens in cold temperatures, reducing grip. Virtually no traction on snow or ice.

Winter Tyres
Winter tyres are designed for cold conditions — below approximately 7°C — including snow, ice, frost, and cold, wet roads. Their rubber compound remains softer and more flexible at low temperatures, maintaining grip where summer tyres harden and lose traction.

Fitting the cheapest tyres available without checking wet grip. Tyres are a safety purchase. An E-rated wet grip tyre takes significantly longer to stop in the wet than an A-rated tyre. The EU wet grip rating is the minimum information to check.
Fitting the wrong size. The tyre size must match the vehicle manufacturer's specification — width, aspect ratio, rim diameter, load index, and speed rating. Incorrect sizes affect handling, speedometer accuracy, clearance, and safety.
